Documents Required for NEET UG Admission: Complete Checklist

A seat allotment through NEET-UG counselling is not the same as admission. You still have to report to the allotted college within a fixed window and produce a complete set of original documents plus photocopies - and colleges routinely turn away candidates whose paperwork is incomplete, even when their rank and allotment are perfectly valid.

Start collecting these well before results are out, not after you're allotted a seat - some, like domicile or category certificates, can take weeks to issue.

Core Academic Documents

NEET-UG admit card and rank/scorecard - both the original and printed copies.

Class 10 marksheet and certificate, primarily used to verify your date of birth.

Class 12 marksheet and passing certificate, showing your Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English marks - the subjects NEET-UG eligibility is actually built on.

Class 12 migration certificate from your board, required by most colleges at the time of admission, not just for later transfers.

Identity and Eligibility Documents

A valid government-issued photo ID - Aadhaar card, passport, or voter ID.

Passport-size photographs, typically the same ones used on your NEET application form - keep at least 10 to 15 copies ready, colleges often ask for more than you'd expect across different forms.

Category certificate, if applicable - SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS certificates must be current and issued in the correct format specified by the counselling authority; an expired or wrongly-formatted certificate is one of the most common reasons candidates lose their category benefit at reporting.

PwD certificate, if applicable, from a government-authorized medical board.

Domicile / state eligibility certificate, required for state quota counselling - requirements differ significantly by state, so check your specific state's rule well in advance.

Counselling-Specific Documents

Allotment letter, printed from the MCC or state counselling portal after your seat is confirmed.

Provisional admission letter or joining report, if issued separately by the college.

Fee payment receipt for any counselling or seat-acceptance fee already paid online.

An undertaking or affidavit, if required by the specific authority or college - formats are usually provided on the counselling portal itself.

A Few Practical Notes

Keep both originals and at least two sets of self-attested photocopies of everything - colleges almost always retain a set.

If any certificate name doesn't exactly match your other documents (a common issue with maiden or married names, or minor spelling differences), get it corrected before reporting, not after - discrepancies are a frequent cause of last-minute rejection.

If a required document is genuinely still in process, check with the specific college whether a certificate of application or pending receipt is accepted provisionally - policies vary, so confirm directly rather than assuming.
